So the work has begun on the new record. I spent the better part of a day working on a song that I pre-proed in garageband on my iPhone. Not to knock what the mic on my phone can capture, but things always sound better when they are run through actual condenser mics and scrumptious outboard gear!
We started off just getting the draft version of the song into Pro Tools, and then went about talking about the song and it's structure. Chip Johnson has a knack for looking at a song and understanding immediately what it needs and what it might benefit from. After a little bit of work we cut ourselves a 4 minute "yeah, i just kept things going till I got board" song, into a 3 minute ditty that has a great curve. After that, we started tracking new versions of guitar and bass until we had a good foundation. A very productive day.
I will be working this week on getting the rest of the song tracked and then it will be on to cooking up some kind of video to go with it. Nothing crazy, but some ideas that have been running through my head for a good while that I would like to make into a little visual piece to go with this song. I'm hoping to get both the song, and the video up in the next 2 weeks.
